Tickets_Now_Available_for_Englert_Theatres_Spring_Season_20010101

Coming off a successful winter, The Englert Theatre is excited to announce its upcoming shows now on sale. The eclectic schedule brings a spectrum of artistic events into Iowa City's historic theatre.

The highlights include: Gaelic Storm with rock-infused Celtic music, bluegrass institution The Del McCoury Band, singer and storyteller Carmel Quinn, and a host of events during the annual Mission Creek Festival including: a special evening with Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, a lecture with Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, film icon John Waters performing "This Filthy World", and a performance by Americana rockers Railroad Earth.

Tickets are available for many of these events right now, and can be purchased at The Englert Box Office (319/688-2653) or online at www.englert.org.

Second City - Friday & Saturday February 4 & 5, 2011 at 8pm
Tickets: $22-27
From Mike Myers to Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert to Tina Fey - The Second City imprint is felt across every entertainment medium. The legendary comedy troupe returns to the Englert. Sponsored by City Revealed Magazine.

And Then There Were None - Friday & Saturday February 11-12 at 7:30pm and Sunday, February 13 at 2pm
Tickets: $10-18
Ten strangers are lured to an island by a mysterious host. This classic play by Agatha Christie will have you wondering, "Who will be left alive?" Produced by Iowa City Community Theatre; sponsored by Lensing Funeral Home and the Englert.

Gaelic Storm - Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 8pm
Tickets: $25-35
Gaelic Storm continue to broaden the musical horizons of the Celtic music genre by creating compelling originals and fresh arrangements steeped in Irish traditional melody and acoustic instrumentation combined with their unique blend of world rhythms. They have thundered onto stages all over the world, and to the top of the Billboard charts!

Lucinda Williams - Friday, February 18, 2011 at 8pm
Tickets: $35
Singer/songwriter Lucinda Williams is beloved by critics and audiences alike for her songs rich in literary detail, unique voice and staunch dedication to her musical vision. Sponsored by Hands Jewelers.

Del McCoury - Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 8pm
Tickets: $25
Vince Gill says it simply, and maybe best: "I'd rather hear Del McCoury sing 'Are You Teasing Me' than just about anything." For fifty years, Del's music has defined authenticity for hard core bluegrass fans -- count Gill among them -- as well as a growing number of fans among those only vaguely familiar with the genre. Co-Presented with Friends of Old-Time Music.

Carmel Quinn - Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 8pm
Tickets: $25
A great singer and storyteller who bridges Irish and American traditions, Quinn was awarded the 2009 Annual Lolo Sarnoff Award for Outstanding Vision and Creativity. Sponsored by Catherine's Boutique in Iowa City.

The Magic Flute - Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 7pm
Tickets: $5-10
Mozart's delightful commentary on love, forgiveness, tolerance and the brotherhood of mankind has become one of the most beloved operas of all time.

Jeff Tweedy - Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 8pm
Tickets: $35
As the founding member and leader of the ground-breaking American rock band Wilco and co-founder of the alt-country band Uncle Tupelo, Jeff Tweedy is one of contemporary American music's most accomplished songwriters. Co-presented with the Mission Creek Festival. Tickets on sale Friday, February 4, 2011 beginning at noon.

Kim Gordon & Thurston Moore (of Sonic Youth) Lecture - Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 7pm
Musicians Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore of rock pioneering Sonic Youth will participate in a panel discussion on the New York City art and music scene of the 1980s. Co-presented with the University of Iowa Lecture Committee and the Mission Creek Festival. The event is free and open to the public.

John Waters - Friday, April 1, 2011 at 7pm
Tickets: $20-25-$75
John Waters is a film legend, known for his quirky, off-beat sensibilities. "This Filthy World" is Waters' rapid-fire one-man spoken word "vaudeville" act that celebrates the film career and joyously appalling taste of the man William Burroughs once called "The Pope of Trash". Co-presented with the Mission Creek Festival. Tickets on sale Friday, January 28, 2011.
