Rover Dramawerks will present the comedy Love in E Flat by Norman Krasna at the Courtyard Theater, 1509 H Avenue in Plano. Performances are July 12-28, with shows on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., with an additional matinee performance on Saturday, July 21 at 2:00 p.m.
In this effervescent comedy, love goes flat when lovers practice to deceive. Howard (played by Joshua Riley) is a poor medical intern whose girlfriend Amy (Porcia Bartholomae) lives in the apartment right below his. He does love her, but out of imagined jealousy, has planted a listening device in her apartment. When Amy discovers the “bug,” she and her sister Bea (Sasha Truman-McGonnell) invent some spicy conversations and situations that keep Howard on his toes. Can true love triumph over tricks and mistrust?
Rounding out the cast are Manuel C. Cruz as Bea’s husband, P. Lynwood Henry as Howard’s roommate, and Matthew Stepan as a bug expert.
Norman Krasna, the author of Love in E Flat, was a popular writer, director and producer in the film world whose work spanned nearly four decades. His first play, Louder, Please, opened on Broadway in November of 1931. He garnered four Academy Award screenwriting nominations, winning once for 1943’s Princess O'Rourke, a film he also directed. Krasna was best known for screwball and romantic comedies, including Rover’s popular hit from last season, Sunday in New York, and was also the author of the perennial family favorite film, White Christmas. He also turned out several excellent dramatic works He worked with such varied talents as Groucho Marks, Alfred Hitchcock, and Marilyn Monroe. Krasna retired in 1964 and died twenty years later at age 74.
Lisa Devine serves as director of the play, with Joslyn Lee as Assistant Director/Stage Manager. Set design is by Rodney Dobbs, costumes are by Lindsey Humphries, and props are by Terrie Justus. Jeff Mabray is lighting designer and Rich Frolich is sound designer.
Tickets for Love in E Flat are $16.00 on Thursdays and matinee and $20.00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Thursday, July 12 is Preview Night, and all seats are “pay-what-you-can.”
