Des Moines audiences are getting spoiled with several productions again this month. After a busy March, April follows suit with a national tour and numerous local productions throughout the month. And from 80s power ballads to small family dramas there is a style to suit every theatergoer.

It will be an 80s party at the Civic Center when Rock of Ages plays in Des Moines for three performances. The story of a small town girl and an LA rock star is set to the music of 80s bands such as Journey, Twisted Sister, and Styx. StageWest Theater Company presents the Iowa premiere of Lisa Loomer's play Distracted. The play follows Jesse, a nine-year-old who struggles to focus and whose teacher speculates he has ADD. The family's journey to handle Jesse and grow with him is at times hilarious and thought provoking. Distracted opens on April 26th and runs through May 5th. Repertory Theater of Iowa presents Pulitzer and Tony Award winner That Championship Season. Jason Miller's play tells the tale of middle-aged men reliving their days as high school basketball champions. The men are forced to come to grips with the fact that their lives are not living up to the visions inspired by their championship season. That Championship Season runs April 19th - May 5th. Up and coming local theater troupe Tallgrass Theatre Company makes their first attempt at a musical production with Eating Raoul! The show follows the Bland family who are short on cash but concoct a scheme to lure unsuspecting people into their apartment to kill and rob them. The story is not typical musical fare, but the show promises to be entertaining and hilarious. Eating Raoul! opens April 19th and runs through May 4th.
