The Englert Theatre will present the inaugural Englert Speakeasy: An Evening of Whiskey Tasting on Friday, June 22 from 9-11pm. Hosted by former Violent Femmes saxophone player and local legend Peter Balestrieri, the event gives guests the chance to sample a variety of whiskey types from around the country while mingling with area whiskey experts and enthusiasts.

Guests will be transported into the Prohibition Era by entering through the Englert alley (on Linn Street between Eble Music and Iowa City Public Library) and moving directly onto the stage set with whiskey tasting stations. A $25 ticket allows guests to try four select whiskey samples, including Templeton Rye, (ri)1, Russell's Reserve Rye, and Bulleit Rye Whiskey, with more beverages available at a cash bar. Peter Balestrieri will also perform a saxophone concert beginning at 9:30pm, further enhancing the speakeasy mood. Sponsor John’s Grocery will provide each guest with their own whiskey tumbler at the event for sampling and at-home use. Food and whiskey pairings will be provided by Devotay during the sampling.

This event serves as a fundraiser for The Englert Theatre, and is part of the Englert’s Centennial Celebration. For tickets and information, contact the Englert Box Office at (319) 688-2653 or visit englert.org.
