The Englert Theatre will partner with the Crisis Center of Johnson County in its Thanksgiving in July Community-Wide Food Drive by giving away a pair of tickets to an upcoming, sold-out performance by actor and musician Hugh Laurie, who will be performing at the Englert on August 17. For each non-perishable food or personal care item donated between July 20 and August 14, participants will receive one raffle ticket for a chance to win a pair of prime seats at the performance. Donations can be dropped off at the Englert Box Office noon-6pm or during any performance, beginning with Paula Poundstone on July 20. The winner will be announced on August 15.
Now in its 14th year, the Thanksgiving in July aims to restock the Food Bank’s shelves with non-perishable goods that will benefit the nearly 17,000 families in Johnson County that seek help for food annually. This year, the Food Bank has set a goal of collecting 40,000 pounds of food during the month-long event, which amounts to approximately two weeks of distributions. Every item donated at the Englert will directly benefit families in need who are aided by the Crisis Center.
Hugh Laurie, who is best known for his starring role on the hit television series House, will make his musical debut at the Englert as part of a world tour in support of his new album, Let Them Talk. The album, which features Laurie on lead piano and vocals, was inspired by the classic blues sound of the New Orleans music scene and brings together a variety of renowned guest musicians and vocalists from the area.
